Discover our transformative project along the Mayes Brook in Barking, Essex, where we undertook the critical task of refurbishing three essential automatic floodgates. These floodgates, namely the Inlet, Outlet, and Ripple Road structures, play a pivotal role in the overall flood control system of the area.
With a history spanning over half a century, these installations had reached a point where their mechanical equipment and electrical switchgear were no longer maintainable. Given their primary purpose of flood defence, it was paramount to ensure their reliable and safe operation.
These floodgates safeguard over 200 properties, comprising residential, commercial and industrial establishments, and major roads like the A13 and A406, against a range of flood events.
With a project cost of £1.3 million, this vital restoration effort was successfully completed in 2006. Join us in celebrating the preservation of this essential flood defence infrastructure, ensuring the safety and security of the community along Mayes Brook.
