The Dagenham Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme involves reducing the flood risk for up to 462 residential properties, as well as private businesses and critical infrastructure. The scheme proposed to raise defences along the River Lee Flood Relief Channel (RLFRC) and Dagenham Broo so that a greater capacity of flood water could be contained. The Dagenham Brook is a small river that flows along the RLFRC in Walthamstow. During extreme flood events, the RLFRC will overflow into the Dagenham Brook, which would overwhelm this smaller watercourse and cause flooding to local households and businesses.
Construction commenced in 2000 and was completed on schedule in 2021.
